The Spark That Started It All

"You'd make a great celebrant!" a school friend declared.

"What's a celebrant?" I replied, mystified but completely intrigued.

Thank you, Elizabeth. That one comment quietly lit a spark. Thank you also to my little bro, Mark and his marvellous wife Kelly, who asked me to be their celebrant and set everything in motion. That's when I trained with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy and found a calling that feels like all the threads of my life woven into one: curiosity, people's stories, performance, holding a crowd, and creating moments that feel both electric and deeply meaningful.

My Story In a Nutshell

I was brought up Christian by my mum and Nan. Midnight Mass was pure magic: stepping out into a sharp midwinter night, entering a tiny candlelit church and singing our hearts out. Meanwhile, my dad's atheism encouraged big questions, and I stepped away from the church and towards curiosity.

I chose Comparative Religions at Lancaster University, a place wrapped in the myth and mystery of the Pendle witch trials. They say the Pendle witches "hold" people in that landscape. I stayed, spellbound by epic moorland, northern skies, and limestone pavements with their hidden worlds amongst the Clints and Grykes!.

At Uni, I discovered something else: you can dance with fire.

Spinning poi and fire clubs became an ever-present rhythm in my life. Learning, performing, teaching, the mesmerising discipline of weaving flame. Fire teaches presence. You have to be steady, attentive and calm within whirling movement. Enthralled by the power and roar of the flames, breathing excitement into the audience.

I worked for years at Growing With Grace, nurturing the soil to grow organic fruit, salads and veg. Later, with Pioneer Projects, Celebratory Arts and Wellbeing, I worked alongside vulnerable adults, learning to listen deeply and draw out people's stories. I helped people living with dementia share their memories in poignant, beautiful ways. Each story a precious gift.

I joined the Green Gathering festival team, pioneers in sustainable events, and learned the rigorous assessment process with A Greener Future. I'm passionate about green ethics running through everything we do. To dance gently and kindly with ourselves, each other and this beautiful earth.

Along the way, I've sung in bands.
My one claim to fame: while supporting The Damned, Captain Sensible said, I've "got bags of charisma."
I'll take that! My ever-constant joy: my two wonderful kids, my brothers and extended family and, of course, my fabulous friends, not forgetting my cats! Thank you, all of you, for your encouragement.

My core values are respect, kindness, honesty, responsibility, creativity, equality, diversity and inclusivity. They aren't just words on a list. They shape every ceremony I create.

I have a deep respect for all traditions, all spiritual paths and all ways of being in the world. I love welcoming heart-centred connections, honouring the earth and finding joy in small wonders of nature. And I have an absolute love of love.

Whatever your ceremony looks like, whoever you are and whoever you're celebrating, you will be seen, heard and celebrated exactly as you are.

My connection to the land and the places that bring people together is a big part of who I am. That's one of the reasons I hold such a special place in my heart for Fron Farm Yurt Retreat in Carmarthenshire, where I live and work. Nestled amongst the rolling green hills and woodland, within reach of the incredible coastline, venturing down to the very tip of Pembrokeshire.It’s a place that embodies so many of the things that I value: community, nature, connection and celebration.

It's also the setting for many of the wedding photographs you'll see throughout my website, and the place where I had the privilege of leading my brother's wedding ceremony. While the resident celebrant at Fron Farm is the wonderful Cathy Davies, who brings years of experience and offers ceremonies in both English and Welsh, I love sharing this special place because it has been such an important part of my own journey and continues to inspire the work I do.

What You Can Expect Working With Me

I'll ask questions. Lots of them. The good kind, the ones that help you articulate what really matters to you and what you want your guests to feel.

From our first conversation (free and no-obligation) through to the day itself, you'll feel supported, heard and genuinely excited about what we're creating together. I liaise with your venue, photographer and any other contributors, so you can relax and enjoy the whole experience.

After the ceremony, I'll send you a digital copy of your script as a keepsake to return to for years to come.

How much does a ceremony cost?

Naming, renaming ceremonies and other milestone ceremonies start from £300, or £350 with an additional ritual element. Weddings, elopements and vow renewals start from £500, or £550 with an additional element. A Master of Ceremonies add-on is £250. Travel over 30 miles from SA34 is 50p per mile.

Can we stay in touch throughout the process?

Absolutely. I'm happy to create a WhatsApp group so we can share ideas freely and keep communication easy and fun all the way through.

How does the ceremony script get written?

After you've booked, I'll send you a ceremony planning guide and a short questionnaire about your story. You fill it in, we have a follow-up conversation and from there I write your script. You'll receive a draft to review and approve, and we'll refine it together until it's exactly right.

What happens on the day?

I arrive early, connect with your venue team, photographer and any other contributors, and make sure everything is ready and as stress-free as possible for you. I'll be present, focused and calm so you can simply enjoy every single moment.

    This is very much where I thrive. My background in Comparative Religions means I have genuine respect for all traditions, and I love weaving elements from different cultures together thoughtfully and beautifully.
